About Us
Thomas Brightwell Architects is a small practice run by two chartered professionals. The practice employs its own draughting team and is in the process of recruiting another full time Architect.
We provide services across a wide range of building project types. We have expertise in domestic projects for homeowners, residential developments and for owners of historic and listed buildings. Whatever your challenge, we can help.
We take care of our clients throughout the stages of a building project. Starting with a scheme design and planning application, where needed, we then gain building regulations approval and, more often than not, provide project management services when work starts on site.
Where you want help with anything from room colours and fabric choices, to bespoke joinery design for kitchens and bathrooms we can provide these services too. Getting the Architecture and Engineering is important. Good interior design and finishes is the icing on the cake!

Richard Thomas BEng (Hons) CEng MIStructE
Richard is an experienced building designer, in both Architecture and Structural Engineering solutions and a Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers, with a first class honours degree in Civil Engineering.
Structural Engineering is too often bolted onto Architectural schemes that have been resolved, missing opportunities to refine and integrate the structural solutions with the architecture from day one. This often results in a poor overall design and at greater expense!
For a long period, Richard worked for a highly regarded London based practice of Structural Engineers where he led a team dealing with all types of building structure. Previous clients included HM Government – Cabinet Office, University of Nottingham, Royal Veterinary College, Rouse Kent – Kings Hill. Some of the many varied projects working for private clients included an underground squash court partly submerged below the water table and a 15,000 sq. ft. mansion house built on anti-vibration rubber pads to isolate it from the Northern Line Underground trains.
